Default what do you think of player-mods for guild wars 2?

has it ever occurred to you that since guild wars 2 will be a fully persistent world it would be nearly impossible for Anet to keep a friendly environment in the entire world probably about 20 Anet gms against millions of players wont end well.
so im thinking Anet can enlist the aid of voluntary moderators who are regular players they can enlist as many as they want and would help stop scammers/hackers/site ads/and idiots who cant seem to control what they say...or type.

requirements for becoming a player mod.

you must have been an active player for 6 months.

must have less than 2 bans/mutes issued.

must be friendly and helpful to other players.

must be very skilled in reporting rule breakers.

having great online social skills would benefit greatly(not getting into arguments)

must be able to log in at least once a week for more than 2 hours.

player mods powers and responsibilities

powers:
you are awarded a silver badge/crown shown on top of your head(you can choose to hide or show it[hiding it can help for those undercover player mods tracking gold sellers])

you are able to mute/ban players for 2 hours.(mutes and bans issued by player mods are reviewed by Anet)

priority alert Anet mods to a specific location where serious rule breaking is taking place by many different players at a time.

you get a private chat channel were you can communicate with other player mods and Anet mods.

you can suspend other players ability to trade for 30 minutes to 3 hours.

you can spy on peoples trades(you may not interfere with it in anyway only look)

you have the ability to recommend a future player mod to Anet.

responsibilities:
stop any suspected trades involving rwt.

mute/ban anybody acting inappropriately (swearing, sexual discussion, asking for personal information including phone number and address)

alert Anet of any serious rule breaking taking place by over 15 players in one area.

mute stalkers, and harassers

help out any new or lost players.

be extremely friendly and not get into arguments or fights with others.

note: nobody may ask or apply for the position of player mod Anet will scout and handpick anybody they feel who is qualified, plus you may choose to not be a player mod if Anet ask you to be one and can resign as player mod whenever you want

so if you think this would be a great help to ArenaNet please share your thoughts, im sure there would be a fair number of naysayers but I think no matter what anybody says this would be extremely beneficial to ArenaNet in keeping a friendly player environment and upholding the rules.

people will always have different views on what is ok to do and what is not. for this reason i think that player mods would be a bad idea.

for instance, one player mod could think a word is offensive, but another may not.

if a random person that wasn't anet staff banned me or muted me, id be pretty pissed. its kind of like a friend of a police officer arresting you or something, it just doesn't seem right to me. it reminds me of the movie "Minority Report" if anyone has ever seen that

plus there are always idiots that will hold grudges against people, and anet will never know the player mod's personality enough for that kind of responsibility to be given to them.
... just my 2 cents on this.

Bad idea. Sorry, if some person ticks me off, I would simply kick/ban them. Even veterans would abuse this feature, as different people have different judgements/point of views on a situation. These kick/ban reviewed by Anet would cause more trouble and work by Anet themselves, as I would expect them to pile up into their inbox, which would destroy the purpose of loosening the load Anet has to work. They would need to gather evidence and investigate these reports one by one. Your creating random GW policemen that patrol throughout the whole game. Even mature players would like to screw around/break a few rules some point in time. I want to relax and play the game, not worry about who is watching behind my back.

IMO, Guild Wars is already a friendly environment. They already implemented many features that help loosen the amount of GMs they really need. Lets not get to carried away and make this an absolute chaotic place (i.e. thats why i quit playing on private servers for games like WoW, rediculous/retarded GMs that get all cocky for poor judgement).

Not a huge fan of the idea.

Also if something like this were to happen I'd rather the Mod have no previous bans at all.

Sorry if I missed something here, but can you link me to the statement by Anet saying the entire game will be fully persistent?

Game mods typically lead to abuse of power.

The suggested requirements are altogether too lenient. Anybody getting mod powers should:
  • have played since the release of the original GW
  • have a spotless record with ANet (a single ban/warning disqualifies)
  • be at least 30 years old (don't want kids running around with that kind of power)
  • be fluent in at least 3 different languages (leetspeak or kitty pidgin don't count)
  • have a Ph.D. in sciences as a proof of a modicum of intelligence
  • have army officer training as a proof of capability to control masses and work under pressure
  • be well enough known to me that I can trust them to do the right thing

I have a love/hate relationship with player mods, having played games that have them before. It's great when they can report rule breaking, and limited muting or trade suspending would be nice too, but you have to watch for abuse of power.

I got muted for 24 hours by a player mod one time because I killed him in a pk area.

I received another 24 hour mute because I was selling things (shout spamming, basically, but thats how it was done) and didn't reply to the player mod.

As long as they're carefully selected, they can be a great asset, but the temptation to abuse the power is too much.

Nobody is immune to corruption. If you don't pay them, it's dangerous.
If they have nothing to lose, like a salary, they will lose nothing if they get tired of the game and want to leave 'making a big noise'.
I've seen that a couple of times in forum...

Was easily fixed, but nasty.

I am against moderator in such game.

There are 2 different thing :

People that break the "agreement" ie the rules set by A.net about relation with real world. This should only be monitored by A.net employee and limited to thing that can be resolved in a real world court.

For other problem, I am for an in game, player run, judicial system. It will be flawn, but if will be RP. This of course would mean that anyone can fight and and damaged any other person.

No.

As others have said, no matter how good the intentions of one are, it would still lead to wrongful bans. I'm pretty conservative when it comes to language or statements, so if I were a mod I know I'd punish people for issues that seemed offensive to me but passable to others.

Not to mention forum grudges, ingame grudges, spur of the moment problems, and any other problems that could arise.

Besides, I don't see why it would be any harder than it is now to /report, investigate, and pass judgement.

I get ticked off at message board mods (not these boards of course, you are all angels :-) ) enough for favoritism (looking the other way when friends or "established" people break the rules). I don't need that in a place where I PAY for services. Mods should be paid employees who risk losing their job if they lie/cheat the system. Its to only way to guarantee honesty.
